Americans win Skate America title

Meryl Davis and Charlie White of the United States won the icedancing title Saturday at Skate America in Ontario, Calif.,following up the world championship they claimed in April.

The Americans beat Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat ofFrance, while American Isabella Tobias, a former new York CityBallet dancer, and Deividas Stagniunas of Lithuania were third.

In the men’s competition, Michal Brezina of the Czech Republicheld on to win the title over Kevin van der Perren of Belgium andTakahiko Kozuka of Japan.

The pairs and ladies short programs were Saturday night.

U.S. wins seven Pan Am titles • Archery favorite Brady Ellisonwon the men’s individual title, while American teammate RockyCarson won the men’s singles title in racquetball at the Pan AmGames in Mexico. In shooting, Emil Milev and Vincent Hancock addedtwo more golds, giving the United States 10 gold medals in thesport. Andrew Adkison won the men’s wakeboard and Regina Jacquesstook the women’s overall title in water skiing, while HelenMaroulis claimed gold in freestyle wrestling. (AP)

Wallace wins at Talladega • Mike Wallace, subbing for ElliottSadler, picked up his first NASCAR truck series victory since 2000when Ron Hornaday Jr. pushed him to the win at TalladegaSuperspeedway. Sadler stayed home awaiting the birth of his secondchild. Hornaday finished second and was followed by championshipcontender James Buescher. (AP)

Vonn takes grand slalom • Lindsey Vonn won the season-openingWorld Cup giant slalom in Soelden, Austria, and became the fifthfemale skier to win a race in all five Alpine disciplines. (AP)

Franklin sets world record • American swimmer Missy Franklin seta short-course world record in the 200 backstroke, clocking 2minutes, 0.03 seconds at a World Cup meet in Berlin. (AP)

Courier wins title • Jim Courier won his second Champions Seriestitle in two nights, beating Todd Martin 8-7 (5) on Friday in theChampions Challenge at Chaifetz Arena. In the semifinals, Courierbeat Michael Chang 6-4, and Martin topped John McEnroe 6-4.(AP)
